Well, here it is: my first blog. I’ve been meaning to putting up one of these for quite some time now, and transfer all of my old website stuff over.

These blog posts are just for fun! I have loaded them with lists (yes, I have OCD) and have spouted my opinions everywhere (yes, I’m on the autistic spectrum too). I have a great family, so there may be a lot of bragging and show-casing going on.

To start, a bit about me. I graduated from Salem State College in 2003 with a degree in Computer Science, and from Endicott College in 2010 with a Master’s of Science in Information Technology. I am a freelance web developer specializing in web programming and databases; I have my own business, White Wave Designs. I got involved in web design when my then-12 year old wanted to make a web page (and the smarty pants learned it all much faster than me)!

In addition to computers, I love to read. I’m a serious Kindle addict, and have been slowly replacing my physical book library with Kindle versions. Gotta love those triple Kindle point days!

Music, however, is my passion. I play all the woodwinds: flute/piccolo/alto flute, Eb/C/Bb/A/Bass clarinets, soprano/alto/tenor saxophones (no more bari due to an injury), oboe/English horn, and even the bassoon! I have played in the pits of musicals, jazz bands, concert bands, symphonies, and chamber music ensembles. Some of the orchestras I have played with include Metrowest Symphony, Wellesley Symphony, North Shore Philharmonic, and even the Salem Philharmonic and Lowell Philharmonic! I currently play with the NSPO and the Salem State University Orchestra. I also enjoy playing concert band music, and play with community groups in Rockport, Beverly, Reading, Ipswich and Gloucester.

Specific ensembles I play in include Polaris Flute Ensemble, Windjammers Woodwind Quintet, and a bassoon group we just started. I’m fortunate in that between all the groups I play with, I get to perform on the majority of my instruments.

I also teach in an after-school program for 4th and 5th graders in the Gloucester Schools. I’ve taught sax, flute and, this past year, clarinet. I absolutely love teaching, which is ironic because the biggest reason I didn’t go to music school was because I didn’t want to end up teaching! Fortunately, my attitude changed, and I am really enjoying myself and the students. Kids are funny!
